I am just look into this. I know you can self publish through Amazon but thought there was a way you can also sell your own software.

Anyone know how? I have been searching but haven't really found what I am looking for. All I see is selling used software programs rather than unique programs we create.

I also think Amazon will give us instant credibility.

Ok, it looks like this is the way to go.

I am going to do some research, build a software program and test this out. When time allows. hehe

Thomas, I sell on Amazon, but I do not have any software programs listed there. You have to provide a UPC code for each of your software products. I did quite a bit of research on this. The cheapest price I found was at http://ezupc.com You can buy them for 20 dollars or less depending upon the quantity.

Hi Alton and Thomas,

Thought this might be helpful for your sales on Amazon. Kunaki is set up to sell on Amazon and offers a UPC barcode for free.

Hi All Prospective Amazon Sellers,

Just for your further knowledge:

What kind of products does Amazon accept into the Advantage program?

They currently accept books, calendars, single copy magazines, CD's, DVD's, VHS, vinyl LP records, software and video games. They do not accept digital content (e-books, MP3 downloads) or subscription-based items like magazines or journals.

Amazon is a great marketplace with millions of buyers. How about having amazon as a partner.:)

Best Regards,

Jim

PS. In case you would like to know what Amazon requires to be your partner.

How much does Advantage cost, and what are the terms?

There is an annual fee of $29.95 to be a member of Advantage. Your fee includes unlimited title enrollment, access to their Vendor Services team, and access to the Vendor web site to manage your account. The standard terms for Advantage vendors is 55% - you keep 45% of the List Price. That means that Amazon.com is entitled to 55% of the List Price for each unit that sells. You, the vendor, receive 45% of the List Price. You set the List Price, also known as Suggested Retail Price, of your products, and all payments made to you are calculated based on the List Price. If Amazon.com decides to further reduce the sales price to the customer below the List Price, the customer discount comes out of Amazon.com's percentage. For example, if the List Price is $39.95, you will make $17.98 from each copy sold, even if the Customer Price or Our Price on Amazon.com is discounted from the List Price.

Thomas what I like about Kunaki is that it gives your product a super professional look. Plus it is pretty inexpensive for what they deliver to Amazon.

If Amazon requires you to ship them 50 software packages it can cost as little as $48.50 to be manufactured and shipped from Kunaki. When you use Kunaki they give you a free UPC on each product you have manufactured. To get the lowest manufactured price at Kunaki you need to purchase 11 or more units. There are certain times that you can get your product manufactured for only .75 cents.

I like to use a CD with a DVD case. It really looks good if you know how to make graphics "POP".

Full color CD with DVD case
Manufacturing / assembly included
Full color CD printing included
DVD case included
Full color 1-panel insert included
Full color DVD case cover included
Cellophane wrapping included
UPC bar code included
24-Hour rush manufacturing included
All inclusive price** $0.75-$1.75

Once you join the advantage program at Amazon you can sell as many different programs or products as you want for an annual cost of only $29.95. Yes Amazon gets 55% commissions but they do all the work. They have a hot marketplace if you know how to make colorful packaging and use hot search words you can do pretty well.

You can look at it as just another hands free revenue stream. :)

Jim

That is what I was thinking. I have been thinking of using Amazon as a lead generation. The 55% commission wouldn't be a problem because I could upsell them eventually.

I would just keep a link in the software to point them to a squeeze page or upgrade. :)

Great idea using the dvd case.

Hmm..I like the idea of the up sale root, I was thinking %55 was a lot to give away but it's not if you only offer a lower featured, lower priced product to start with, I'm sure my fishing software would benefit from this kind of thinking, I offered every bell and whistle I could think of to sell on ebay and sold 18 of the twenty units I purchased from kunaki, a cd in a DVD case, fantastic quality all round,
I reckon I could sell more at a lower introductory price and link to an upgrade page, that goes for possible offline CD sales as well from retail stores, that way we get to keep %100 of the upsale...Nice

Amazon should be treated as another affiliate. I normally give affiliates 50% at the very least anyway. From my understanding, the people with the big lists demand a lot more (75%).

I definitely think everyone should test it out as a lead source.

You have to remember that you can sell them over and over again if you set this up correctly.

It all boils down the the search terms you use just like anything else online.
