View Full Version : Custom software

Custom software is a great way to make some cash right now. If fact, you can create the skeleton of the software and let your user download Tiger Software Brander to change the way it looks, add banners, add websites, trial versions and so on.
By adding the brander into the mix, it should alleviate a lot of your time and support.

You will be surprised at how fast you will be building software. It is my job to teach you. I will be making a lot more videos and will try step by step tutorials.
Your job is to change your mindset and keep saying that you are a software developer. ;)

The software is like any other software you use, you open it up and start using it, experimenting, and before long you start to get more I deas about how you can use it.
This is very easy to use, just try it out and you'll see. And if you have a problem you can come here and find an answer.

I'm not an internet marketer so my understanding of how to brand and market software is nil. However, I have created a few applications using TSBPro and found it to be an exceptional package. For my medical business I created a headache tracker application. It's on our web site and is free. It can be seen at www.headacheanalyzer.com/software. It addresses a real need of headache sufferers. Also created a task tracker for my own use. One of our products is in patient trials and the project tasks are daunting. Find task tracker to be a simple but highly effective way to keep on top of those tasks. Am now building another application for my own use, "auto maintenance." It's a simple application to track maintenance servicing of my POV's. Nice way to keep my Jiffy Lube, dealer servicing, etc. records including costs in one place and forward plan when I need servicing. Since I keep my autos well maintained and run them until the wheels fall off, I like to keep tabs on things such as when the struts were replaced on the '01 Maxima, or what did I pay for those Michelin tires. It's likely there is software out there in the marketplace that does what I need , maybe better. But I haven't found it.

Mike: no, I don't know the language you use in Internet marketing, nor what is meant by "click banks" for instance. Don't fully grasp Thomas' idea of "a skeleton" and then let the customer "customize." I've never sold anything via the web. I get regular messages from CGI Connection on software that's available (last week he had a 59 minute sale on a raft of products). I look at those products and wonder how he is doing in $$. However, he seems to be selling to Internet marketing people, not other businesses or the general population. I'm a retired management consultant, an old geezer, who started a medical informatics business in retirement. Know my way around computers and can write software code at a medium level; have an excellent understanding of business processes and management issues. I would like to see this community toss some marketing ideas around. When I only have myself and my partner (who is an M.D.) to talk to, I really dumb down. I'm a guy who doesn't buy a lot of toys, so, I lack imagination as to what I'd sell via the web if I were to try and sell anything.

JWB:)

Skeleton isn't a marketing term, but one I used to unsuccessfully describe the process of branding.
Basically you create the software and let the person customize it with the brander. What I meant by skeleton, was have all the software objects created, with editors, and giving them the layout file to let them do the rest.
Thomas
P.S. Awesome work on the software.

I am not Mike, but I will chime in until he returns.
Ok--let me see if I can clear up a few things for you. (warning: I may confuse you more-LOL).
First let's define "click banks" --I think the term is clickbank---this is sort of a warehouse of products that internet marketers go to in order to find products to sell. It is http://www.clickbank.com
(http://www.clickbank.com)
Let's say that you make a software like your headacheanalyzer---you could list it on clickbank and sell it. Also many people--in the thousands or more would be able to see your software and sell it also (for a commission). This helps you get many folks selling your software and gives them something to sell also.
Clickbank is used on a regular basis especially by Internet Marketers.
Ok let's try skeleton software now and rebranding:
Again, let's take your headacheanalyzer software as an example. You have it made now. You could also put a link to the rebrander on your site. The customer would be able to get your software and the rebrander both.
What this would do is allow the customer (example: another doctor) to get your software. It would also allow him or her to brand your software to meet their needs or customers. They could change the colors, add links to their own sites or products, etc.
Why would you want to do this?
Well, maybe you wouldn't. But lets say you wanted to build a list of doctors only. You could offer them the software and rebrander in return for subscribing to your list or newsletter.
This is sort of like "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" type thing. Give them something valuable in return for subscribing.
Or, you just want to be a nice guy--LOL
Finally let's define Internet Marketer---this is usually a term most folks use to describe someone who is selling ebooks, make money, etc. type products on the internet.
However, that would be an incorrect definition. Internet Marketer describes anyone who puts a product or service on the internet for mass use.
Guess what JWB? You now are officially an Internet Marketer!
Congratulations!
Hope that helps just a little and didn't confuse you more:D

Glad I could help you out a little. I knew that if you understood my description, you would have so many ideas right away. Just be careful with what Internet Marketers call "Information Overload"--LOL So many ideas that you never actually "take action" on any of them.
I don't sense that you will have a problem with that, so, much success to you.

Great post by Glenn,
I also wanted to say that you can use software to sell Clickbank products, either your own or as an affilliate.
I am putting this in action myself. I will be creating software, for a particular niche, and put my affilliate links and banners inside the app. The user clicks on the banner and sees the sales page, with my affiliate link, and I get credit if they buy.
I should post this in a separate thread. hehe

Hi Thomas,
Not sure, but I'm presuming it's the Builder. You say: "you can create the skeleton of the software and let your user download Tiger Software Brander to change the way it looks". I wanted to know where the software is that will create this "skeleton".
I have the PDF Maker and such-like - but with these I have the brander and can rebrand it as mine. I was hoping that there was something where I could be on the level above that - where I can give the brander away with the creator software itself, and my customer would then be able to create their own rebranded versions.
Am I making any sense? :P A while ago you said on Twitter that you were working on something - I think this is what I'm looking for.

Hi Mari,
The rebranding only works with software created with Tiger Software Builder.
It won't work with the PDF Maker.
This is a new release.
I am running a special on the Express version.

I tried to find a link all throughout your TS website, but I guess I must have somehow missed it. I'm looking forward to using it. :)
I realize the brander I have is for the PDF Maker. This was included with the product when I purchased it.
BTW, if we want to give the brander with the software we create with TSBuilder to our customers, do we need to pay for it, or can we use the free downloadable one (at ../sales/tsbrander.htm)? I see you mention that it's only for personal use, though. If not, where can I find the paid version?

Hi Mari,
You didn't miss the links, I just put them up today. :D
The PDF Maker is something totally different to my new products. You are correct that the brander was the software you installed. This works differently but is built on the same technology to a greater degree.
You can have your customers come to the site and download Tiger Software Brander for free. No need to pay for it. I just don't want people to be selling it or giving it away on their sites. Just send them a link to the page or the site and they can download it from there.
If any of your customers have a problem, they can post their questions on the forum.
Thanks,
Thomas

Thanks for the reponse. Just a question/thought, though... if our customers were to have to download the brander from this site, wouldn't it sort give away our "secret"? ...Or am I missing something?

I don't think it would give anything away. You can send them to the direct link without going through the main site. Send them to http://ProfitTigerSystems.com/sales/tsbrander.htm, which doesn't have any links to the main site.
You have to remember that they may need to watch some of the videos to help them customize. What will you do if they need support for the branding software? ;)

I see. I guess I have a bad tendency to measure others against myself. Personally, when I am taken to a link, I like to explore it - for example, taking the tail off a link and seeing what the home page is about, etc. That's how I came across the page for the brander. The directory in which the TSB web page is located on your site doesn't have an index file in it, so if you browse to the directory, you can see everything there. :p
And regarding the support, for the primary products I make available (not the dime-a-dozen resale products), I usually see to it that I know what's what in order to be able to give proper support myself. :)
But, as I said, it's a bad habit, because other people are different. Most aren't as "geekified" as I am. ;) I also have to admit, it's great to have the support already available so we don't have to worry about that.
Judging from the other products I have from TS, they're top-notch and I've had some good results, so I'm really looking forward to everything I can do with the TSBuilder.

Mari

This type of marketing works. Software is an incredible way to market yourselves and other products. It doesn't have to be just a product to sell. The better the software, the easier to get it to go viral. I learned that from Tiger PDF Maker. This gives us an incredible edge over others, especially article marketers. Sorry I hate writing articles. :D I like getting paid for software and continue making sales through the same software program.

Hi Laurie,
Do you have project tasks, charts, report, calculations, address editors and phone editors?
If so they you have the Professional version. I will also be adding a lot more editors to the professional version like an excel spreadsheet, ftp, email, zip and so one...
If you don't have that then email me and I will get it to you since you should have received the update.
I am not selling the Professional at this time. Maybe next year I will sell it but will only sell it in limited numbers.

Thomas,
My hubby is also an SE (for the past 25 years), and even though I myself am not into programming, I'm not too dense when it comes to computers and all that goes with it. I've just been playing around with TSBuilder and reading the included manual, and all I can say is, hats off to you. You've done something I had wanted my hubby to do for a year or two now, but he's more into big business/company programming, and I couldn't convince him enough to give it a go. My bad, I'm afraid. :o
At any rate, congratulations on a job well done. And you have every right to do with your software whatever you want, so keeping your business name on the brander is A-OK with me. :)
Have a happy day,

Thank you very much Mari. I am blushing... My wife will be mad at you for making my head bigger. :D
I worked for a lot of government agencies and insurance companies as a consultant before I got into more personal software. Lots of traveling which got on my nerves after awhile. I was flying in and out every week. That was one of the reasons I got into internet marketing, to help me work from home or if I decide to take a long trip. hehe
This is only the beginning of TSB. Lots to do.
Once I build up this forum with more people, I want to create a marketplace where you and others can sell their "Software Layouts". Software layouts are just a file that you create from your software project that other TSB users can import. Just like the Tiger Software Brander but with more options. You can edit the Software Objects, add more property editors and so on... really being able to edit the software as if you created it. You can't edit those things with the brander.
I am hoping it will prove to be a nice additional revenue stream for some people here.
