View Full Version : Database error on saving
For some reason, one of the text fields we added to our application prevents records from saving if anything is entered into it. As long as nothing is entered into that field, then it saves fine, but if anything at all has been put into that field, it gives the following error:
"An error has occurred connecting to the database. Please contact your system administrator."
Even erasing the information after it has been entered doesn't prevent the error. Once the info has been added, the error will occur every time you attempt to save from then on, no matter what you do.
The field in question is just a standard text field, nothing special, and is made exactly the same way as many other text fields in our application already. This is a clean build/clean install, we aren't using an old database or anything.

I got it Reg. What was the name of the textfield that is erroring out?
Thanks,

My bad.
The text field we found that gives us the problem is File Location under the Product Info tab.
I just tried another test and this time got the following error message:
Error 457 (Provider v. 3.2.1.43): Nested transactions not supported
Error 450 (Provider v. 3.2.1.43): Cannot begin transaction
Hope this helps.
Any thoughts on what you have seen thus far

Just wondering if you're any closer to finding the source of the problem.
I have a couple of other applications I'd like to try but hesistate to until this issue is resolved.
Anything more I can do to help you?

Hi Reg,
I am still trying to figure out what is going on.
You can go ahead and create your other applications. This is seems to be a problem with the client software but not sure. You shouldn't have any problems with creating other programs. I have created a lot on the current TSB build with no problems. In fact, this is the first report of this kind.
I will get back to you once I figure it out. :)
Thanks for your patience,
Thomas

Hi Reg,
I can't reproduce your error.
Try this for me. There should be a folder under the TSB folder in program files called 92b8e773-1c08-457d-9fde-c4c6dd99da6b.
Delete that folder and run the software again.
I am hoping this was a deletion problem that didn't get taken out of the database. I corrected this and will be in the new version.
BTW, I like what you were doing. I think it will turn out really nice.
Thanks,
Thomas
Thomas
I found and deleted the 92b8e773-1c08-457d-9fde-c4c6dd99da6b folder as you suggested.
I then added my info into the file location window and tried saving it and got the same error message"
"An error has occurred connecting to the database. Please contact your system administrator."
I'm a little reluctant to spend time on the next project without getting this solved and hope you understand why. Don't want to run into a similar issue.
You mentioned the next version will address this. Any idea as to when that will be released?
Thxx...

Hi Reg,
Does this happen every time you save? Did you try a couple of records?
What is the file location so I can try to recreate it.
I don't know if the update will correct this because I am not getting the same errors and therefore don't know what the problem is. I need to be able to duplicate it to fix it.
Thanks,
Thomas
I've tried a number of tests and no matter what I put into the File Location text field I get the same error message.
The file location i've entered is :
C:\Users\Reg\Documents\1st WSO & SPECIAL PURCHASES\Backlink Spy Rebrander\backlinkspyrebrander

Reg, I have no idea what you are talking about when you refer to file location. :)

I guess I misunderstood what you meant when you asked for the file location [below]. I thought you meant you wanted to know what I was entering into the "file location" text box. Please clarify. Would it help if we could connect in Skype or MSN? I'll email you my contact info for both.
Thx....Reg

I spoke to the computer guy who helped me create the application and he says to tell you that no matter what we enter into the File Location text window [even a space] will prevent us from saving the entry and bring up the error message.

Hi Reg,
What are you referring to when you say File Location text window? I don't know what that is. Can you post a picture of it please so I know what you are referring to.
I don't know if you are using a particular file editor the correct way. That could be the problem but until I know what you are talking about in regards to the file location text window, I won't know for certain.
What I do know is the layout you sent me works on my computer. So that may mean you have corrupted your software project or not using a editor the correct way.
If you are talking about the file editor than use the button on the editor to select the file. You won't be able to type in the location of the file with that editor. I suspect you are not correctly using this editor which is why you are getting an error.
I can't help you until I know what you are referring to.
Thanks,
Thomas

What I am referring to is the File Location text line that is found in the Product tab of the WOWO.P.O. application. I sent you that application.
No matter what I enter into the text [typing or cut & paste] line of the produces the error message.
Does this clarify or confuse things?
Thx...
P.S... I sent you my contact info if you'd prefer to connect that way.

Hi Reg,
Can you do me a favor? I would like you to create a new software project, add one software object with one text field. Run it and try to enter in data. I want to see if you get the same error with one text field. If you do can you email me that layout file as well?
Thanks,
Thomas
Thomas
I will do that but it may take a couple of days.

You have a lot of fields so I am hoping that your new layout will help me figure out the problem. I have a new version coming out next week as well.
