Log File from TSB Pro:

Building Project: dsasd
Output Folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\TSB Professional\SetupBuilder\Release\Web\
Deployment Type: Compressed Web-Based EXE
Code Signing: Disabled
Compression: Best
###
Cleared output folder C:\Program Files (x86)\TSB Professional\SetupBuilder\Release\Web\
Error during build: Access violation at address 00000000. Write of address 00000000

When I go to view the /Release/Web folder I find an 86kb version of my .EXE, when I double click I receive the error:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2721.

Restarted computer, and restarted TSB Pro like 5 times, still no luck.

The software RUNS fine, but when I go to build it does the initial build screen the its gone a second later with a Ding!

Any ideas T, was hoping to get this new software idea finished to promote this week :-(

Hi Dexx,

I am looking into that problem. I never received it before but now I am getting it on another piece of software so I can try to track down the error.

Have you built anything before this?

Thomas

Ya I've built about 4 other programs before this and never received the problem.

There WAS some issues with my favicon at first, I originally tried to link a favicon that didn't show up well at all, so I then deleted it and made a new one.

It shows up fine in the preview window, but when I run the test software program, the Tiger Image icon shows in the top left corner (not sure if that's normal)

If it isn't then maybe thats the problem?

The original favicon was created using a .png image at first as well, the second one was using one of my .gif icons.

Not sure if any of that helps.

If I were to delete the software project and create a new project using the same object, would that fix the problem you think T?

No it shouldn't involve your software projects. There is something else going on here.

Can you build any other projects? Or do you get the same error when you build them all. This was something I am working on right now besides docs.

Didnt think to try! One sec!

*UPDATE*

Eeek! No I can't build any projects without getting the error, and that includes already built software projects that I attempted to create a new version of!

How can this be fixed in the meantime T? Any ideas, deleting a file to reset or something?

I can remake the project, but not being able to make anything is ugh!!

The only thing I would try is to uninstall the software and reinstall it. If you don't delete anything than all of your projects should be there when in install the software again.

Uninstalled and reinstalled, it kept all the projects etc.

But still error on EXE setup...

Is there a way to just make a copy of the install folder, uninstall the program, then copy and paste the software project files (or folder its in etc.) so that I have a completely clean install that works, and then just load the software projects in that way?

If not, maybe I'll just delete everything and reinstall, that way I can still make stuff at least!

Please let me know asap T, thanks :)

Hi Dexx,
If you just rename your builder.tsb file in your TSBPro directory,
then you will have a new canvas with nothing in it when you run tsb again.
Then you can import some of your layouts and see how that goes.
Just rename builder.tsb to builder.tsb.old and TSB will make a new one when you run it.
You can always rename it back and delete the new one if it doesn't work.
Steve :)

To import layouts do I need to export them first before changing the filename?

Or do I just browse the directory and search for the previous software projects?

(never played with the import / export layout feature)

stevinium
01-21-2009, 01:05 PM
Yes you will need to export your layouts first.
Go to each software project and export each one.
When you reimport them, you will get an error, but it will import your
project with the objects in them.
Make sure you export to .tly file.
You have to open each project then go to miscellaneous, then export layout.

Dexx, I am trying to come out with a fix for you. Don't start deleting things because it won't help. You can still create software. You just are not able to build it until I get the fix out to you.

I am testing it out right now. :)

I don't want you to screw up your projects.

I tested it out on a clean xp machine and know this is working.

Lets try to clean up your files.

Uninstall TSB. Delete the folder installaware under c:/program files.

Then run the installation again.

Hopefully this will get the files correctly on your machine.

Uninstalled and deleted folder, re-installed...

same error on creation :(

I could just uninstall and delete the whole folder, wouldnt take me too long to rebuild the software project...

but I'd only want to do that if it would work :P

What else could be causing the build error to keep going despite the uninstall?

Not sure what is going on Dexx.

Try opening your registry and deleting the following.

Delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MimarSinan setting. Just the MimarSinan one, nothing else.

To open registry, click Run on your start menu and type in regedit.

Reinstall the software after that. Maybe there is something wrong with your registry.

Hrmm, might be a registry problem...I don't even have that file?

Dexx, did you uninstall the previous version before installing the new one?

You problem would have to do with that registry.

Thomas

ya uninstalled and deleted the folder as you instructed.

Maybe I'll just delete the whole folder, will that fix things you think? Or is it that registry thing I dont have?

Should it be created when an installation is made?

The registry should have been taken care of during installation. DO you have any program not allowing the registry to be changed? Spybot does this.

Deleting the folders won't change the problem.

Did you try running the install as administrator or running TSB in compatibility mode and as administrator

Dexx
02-03-2009, 04:04 PM
Alright uninstalled the software again, deleted the installaware folder, and then ended up finding that registry key in the Registry in that WOW folder and deleting it (good catch Tom!)

I then ran the install again in Administrator mode..

however when I went to build my software again, same build error on projects that previously were built.

Damn :(

MikeM

Did you try right clicking the TSB icon and running the program as administrator? And then if that fails running it in XP compatibility mode (right click -> properties -> Compatibility Tab)

Dexx

Uninstalled and deleted everything, disabled User Access Controls (no more admin priv. crapola)

reset the comp

reinstalled new version

ran the test software first and input some data (make sure it was working)

closed, saved and closed...

re-opened, built exe...

same error :(

What does delete everything mean? Where is the folder Installaware?

by "delete everything" I meant delete the installaware folder from program files, and delete the registry key you pointed out from the registry

I guess I could have just written that instead :P

Dexx, when you reinstalled the software, is the registry key back under the WOW?

Could the registry key be exported from a machine that has it in the right place and sent to Dexx? Then he could just right click and merge it and see if that works?

No, I don't think that will work.

He is on 64 bit and the WOW is actually to set up to allow software to run as 32 bit. There is something else going on here which I don't understand.

He had it working up to a few weeks ago.

MimarSinan is back in the Wow folder after each installation.

I was creating and building programs fine for weeks now, until just one day I received that error during a build creation, and since then no building exe's works (even on previously made software projects)

Quite odd really

I will have it up today and will pm you the download link.

Dexx,

Check out the registry again.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MimarSinan\InstallAwar e\2.0\Plug-Ins

Click on the individual folders within the Plug-ins and let me know where on your computer they are pointing to.

Thanks,

Thomas you're a genius! (of course)

The registry files are all pointing to:

C:\Program Files\InstallAware

however on my Computer (and possibly all Vista computers?) the installation of programs are done to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware

which is where I have been deleting the folder from...

so the registry is pointing to a different location than the folder of InstallAware even exists too.

What should I do about this? copy and paste the InstallAware folder over to the other Program Files? (Vista seems to have both the regular and (x86) folders)

Yes, copy the installaware over to the c:\program files. I wonder why it wasn't installed there to begin with. Hopefully this will work.

Whew, I was running out of ideas. lol

I don't know why it worked then didn't. Maybe you reinstalled and it screwed things up. I will need to check to see why it didn't install in the correct folder and fix it.

Thanks for you patience Dexx,
