Hi Everyone,

Can anyone give me a quick overview to add a report or a chart? After I have built the main program I have selected charts or reports and each asks me to name it and then select a data type from a drop-down, but the drop-down is empty--no selections.

any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think when you create your object, there is a checkbox on the right side that says Reports/Analysis. Check this off. Then in the Software Project on the right side there is a Modules. Check off if you want reports or charts.

Mike is correct. Man you people are good. I don't even need to come online anymore. :D

You have to check the reports/charts checkbox on the software object that you want to run the reports or charts against.

I believe Steve is having trouble after he opens his application and tries to have the software to build a chart or report. You click on Analyis, then Reports, then New, then a small window opens...

Give the report a name. And, click on the drop down menu. It should offer a selection of where to obtain the data from. I guess your is not doing that. Do you have any other software objects in this application or software?

Steve:

Remember to "bind" the data to the chart or report when creating them. Have a pdf that shows chart creation at http://www.headacheanalyzer.com/headachetracker.html. Last page or two shows how to create chart.

You have to check the reports/charts checkbox on the software object that you want to run the reports or charts against.

If you haven't done this, the objects will not show up in the list when creating a new report.

I've tried the reports, and either they don't work or I don't know how to use them.
The charts work fine.

Hi John,

I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing. I can build the software and I can build a reports/ charts generator but I can't figure out how to bring them together. Alton references an "Analysis" tab but I'm having trouble making that an available option. In other words, I'm having trouble bringing up the choice to launch the application and the choice to build reports or charts in a single view after compiling.

Hi Steve:

Did you get an answer to this question?

If not, read on and see it this helps. My apologies if its too basic, but often I can't follow somebody else's instructions unless they write them for me at a very basic level.

When you created your software object (with TSBPro) under the "Default" window there was a selection option for "Reports/Analysis". To create a report or chart for use in later times , when you first build your Software Object those boxes must be selected.

Then, when creating a new Software Project in the "Default" window there are also two choices you need to select, one for "charts" the other for "reports", both of which are in the "Modules" tab.

If you made these selections and customized your layout and go through build cycle the resulting application should have a navigation window titled "analysis". That's the navigation bar to select to bring up the charts and reports object images in the navigation window.

John Burns

Hi John,

Thanks for hanging in there with me. I've followed your instructions step-by-step. when I click "run software" and compile, I am presented with only a reports screen- so I do get the analysis options (both reports and charts) but not option to launch the actual application. I'm not seeing how you can launch the application, enter some data, and then view the output in a report or chart.

So, I can successfully launch the application - OR- successfully launch the reports/ charts.

Hi Steve,

I am not sure what you mean by launch the application.

The reports and charts is part of your application. Are you saying you don't see your Software Object in the application when you run it?

Thanks,

Thomas

Steve:

I'm not clear about your last sentence. Do you mean that after you have:
1. built a software object, including choosing an objec image, and saved that object build
2. opened the" Software Project" function, chosen "run" and customized your layout
3. then selected "create setup", saved your update and successfully built the application, and
4. installed the application on your hardrive and
5. opened the application...
that the only navigation bar to appear in the lower left portion of the window is "analysis"? And that the software object name you assigned does not appear?
If so, that seems awfully strange.

Here are some images of one of my project scheduler applications. Notice in the image" ProjectTracker3_default_window" both the "analysis" and the "project" bars are showing.

When I click on the "project" bar a "hammer and wrench" object image appears. See "ProjectTracker3_hammer_tool_image"

When I click on the "hammer and tool" image, the data grid window appears under the" Default" tab. See "ProjectTracker_default_window_data" image. If I have no data saved the grid is empty.

If I click "new" a new project data entry window appears under "default."

So if something akin to this process isn't happening with your application, I don't understand why.

Perhaps other community members have an idea as to the cause. Let me know how you make out.
Hope you have success.

OK, now I see it. Thank you, John and Thomas. I was thrown off by the navigation as it launches showing the charts and reports. Will it remain this way in updates, Thomas? The driving module is, of course, the data collection piece and I wonder if this will cause similar confusion to end-users.

Also, a question I may have asked before, can we prepare "canned" charts/ reports so the end-user does not have to go through any of the building process for these?

I am going to try to make the analysis at the end of the navigation. Ideally I would love to give you the option of what would be first, second, third, etc.. but it isn't a easy task the way the software is designed.

You will still need to help the end user navigate.

Yes you can. The end user can also build them. As Thomas said, it will be up to you to educate your customers on how to do this. This is actually a fantastic option. Many programs come with a few graphs/reports and that's it. With TSB, once the end user gets some education, they can create the reports they want and need.

Agreed, very powerful. Thanks Mike.

Steve:
How to build and save a chart is covered in post I put up on Power of TSBPro in an earlier response to your post. It explains that the build can serve as a template for the user and you can create any number of pre-designed charts.
