View Full Version : How do you save a report?

Hi All,
For one of the apps I'm building, I would like to offer a simple report that the end-user does not need to go thru the steps of building. Ideally, when they click on the charts, the lone chart that the application offers, that I have already defined and built for them, will appear. I understand this can be done but cannot see how. Has anyone successfully done this?
Also, in saving charts, are we able to remove any reference to TSB in the object? I would prefer not to show anything proprietary that is not my company name.
BTW--Hey John--thanks for the headache tracker PDF. That's a solid and helpful document.

Hi Steve,
I will check out the TSB but it may not be changeable. I am doing a lot of custom work when the software starts up and that may be one thing that isn't being picked up.
I am not sure what you are doing to be honest. You are talking about one report and one chart. Is the chart within the report?

Hi Thomas,
Let's say just one chart (not even a report). So when the user clicks on "analysis" it opens up right into a chart that reflects the data they have input. The parameters of the chart have already been determined and set up by me during development. Some of the applications I'm thinking about are very "canned" and should offer one simple chart.
Hope that makes sense.

Steve:
Don't know if this answers your question, but:
In an earlier post I mentioned that when you build a chart and save it. the user has access to that template. They do have to go to analysis and select the saved project and click on "bind". But after they do that the chart that you saved does come up in the window with any data that was entered in the application. So, if the user entered data over time the canned chart you created would show the data when the user selected the project and "bind" under the pivot tab and then clicked on the chart tab.
Best regards,

Hey John,
Right. I'm starting to think that I'm looking for a capability that does not yet exist in shutting off the option of enabling the user to build their own reports or modify what I build into the application for analysis. It may seem counter-intuitive but I find that, with off-the-shelf types of applications, it can be better to keep the user in more of a closed and structured environment.

Hi Steve:
Now I understand. Hmmm? Hadn't thought of that option in the software. Limit the user to only what you want them to have access to. Could be interesting marketing approach. Sell them a basic, "non editable" version and also offer them a version that was more adaptable for a higher fee. The free headache diary we have posted is something akin to that. It has limited features. A more extensive version that records and monitors other data along with analysis will be available for a fee.
