Do we need to setup a PAD file for our software? If so, which generator is best to utilize? Here is a saved thread from the Warrior forum that discusses some different strategies and sources for PAD file generators...

Pad files are just files that tell the software directory information about your product. That way you can take one pad file and upload it to tons of software directories.

I normally used Robosoft for my software submissions. You also use it to create the pad file. I do believe that you can get a free trial for 30 days and after that still use it to create the pad files.

Very well, I made my first working software today and submitted it to about 150 directories using RoboSoft. Should wake up tomorrow to dozens of orders. :D

Had to make a webpage, video to explain and sell the software and setup things with DLGuard, etc. It takes just minutes to make the software, but hours to take care of all else.

Tomorrow...I do it all again!

Thanks, Tink, I am sure I could have made more improvements to the software and I will . But, I think the best way to get started is to go all the way through the entire process from start to finish. That is the only way to get a feel for it all. The best way to learn, is to get in there and experience the process. And, there is nothing to it, just a lot of little details to sort out. I have been selling products for several years online, but never dealt with software directories til now. Using RoboSoft makes it easier and more effective I think. They offer a free 30 day trial and then a one time payment of about 100 dollars. It signs you up to directories and keeps up with your records. It will construct your PAD file based upon your entered information.

Fantastic Alton. Don't forget to go to CNET.com also names Download.com and do a submission there. I think you need to do it by hand there which is worth it.

Robosoft has a monthly fee after 6 months but isn't much and well worth it. It is to keep the directories up to date.

You selling it or is it freeware? Are you offering demos to your dev-buddies here?

IOW, would love to see it! :)

Alton (I don't know if it is proper to quote myself, but I have been doing it for years...I repeat myself!)

Well, it took several days to get the second one ready. A little more complex. But, two softwares submitted so far to the directories. RoboSoft is great. Within hours of submitting software, I can find it already indexed on Google at some of the directory sites.

Nice job Alton.

You can also change the name of your current projects, make it look a little different and try uploading to different categories of the directories. I do think the name of the software will matter so try to keep the name something that would be searched on.

I had one project get a lot of downloads and I am sure it was because of the name I used. It was searched for quite a bit.

Just re-reading Chris Rempel's Lazy Marketer and he swears by using PromoSoft (doesnt seem like an affiliate link he's promoting) for his software submissions.

One submission of a lame little 3 page website built into a program netted him 24,000 downloads in one day at one point, which lead to $9,100 in commissions!

Food for thought, but I'll be researching submission software right away here too also :)
