Thomas,

Hi. You may have already addressed this. I know earlier I asked about a data base function. I recall that your response dealth with the use of grids. I may not have fully understood your reply. I know that TSB Pro will allow the creation of applications that can save files. But at this time is it possible to create applications that would allow, for example, the saving of individual items, such as a list of furniture, or different kinds of coins, art inventory and so forth and then allow for the searching of those items by a keyword or category query?

The column chooser when you right click on the grid titles will allow you to remove all items you don't want shown. Then you can filter the results.

There's also a "Filter By Text" box at the top of the columns. You could enter your keyword there and it will filter the columns to only show the ones containing that keyword.

Dexx and Mike,

Thank you for your replies. I'll have to work with this a bit.

Hi Evan,

Take a look at the grid videos on the main site. This will show you how you can really search through your records. Pretty cool stuff.

Thomas,

Thank you. I will indeed rewatch everything. I will also reread and study the manuals you've provided. I'm very green at this but will chip away at it bit by bit. I was thinking that this might work well for creating applications to keep track of various sorts of inventories, record keeping and manipulation of the inventory items.

By the way, changing the subject, have you read the book, The Numerati, by Stephan Baker? Very interesting account of the rise and use of Internet data analysis. It would be neat if it were possible to build in specific applications specifically for data mining. Like a "data mining" editor, or some such thing.

Hi Evan,

These types of apps are perfect for inventories, record keeping and so on. You even have bar codes within the reports.

You do have reporting and charts that can help you data mine. What other types of data mining would you be interested in?

I almost forgot that all Pro users will be getting multi user support. You will be able to target small businesses. :)

Hey Thomas did you say that we'd be able to have the "Upgrade without erasing previous data" ability in the upcoming release?

Or will that not be for some time?

Not this release. That will be in the next one. After I get this one out there I am focusing on the mail merger, importing, the updating and finishing up the Pro documentation. Then I will release that.

After that release, I will focus on the multi user functionality for the Pro version and the php shopping cart script.

Thomas,

Thank you for your reply. I think part of my problem is that I haven't yet figured out what I can and cannot do witht he software. As I mentioned, I'm really green. So, I'll gradually figure it out. It helps to have to say from time to time what is possible and what isn't possible. So your reply above is really helpful. Thank you again!

When the upgrade and the new manual are available, how do we know about it? Will the software upgrade itself?

I am setting up a membership today that you can log in at any time to get the manual or the updated version. I am working on it right now. :)

I will also make a post here in the forum. More than likely a sticky with the changes and version number.

Is it, or will it be possible to cherry pick from a data base of products or inventory like stock control
so when they are ticked they are added to another list for further processing i.e add a quantity calculation

What exactly are you doing (creating) (if you don't mind answering)? I ask because I am doing a software app which
requires a list of stock items (of sorts) and I am using a relational database as part of the software for the actual list
of items... so if it is anything like what I am doing, perhaps I could throw some suggestions your way, you know...

Hi Neal,

I am not sure I understand the question. Please remember to speak slowly for me because I am slow. ;)

OK as an example, you want to create a shopping list from a large list of products,
the large list is in your data base, the large list will be presented as the item name
and a check box next to it, you scroll through your list and select the items you want
using the check box. all the items you have selected are added to a sub list which
you can then print off.

that's the sort of idea, just wanted to know if it was possible to do?

no, not at this time. This is way off from what I was thinking, heheh...

You can create groups and add your items to each group. You cannot add them automatically.

So you have a customer and then groups for customers that you want to track.

Create a customer object and a group object.
If your customer can be in several groups at one time you will give it a relationship of many to many with Group.

If you customer can only be in one group at one time you will create a relationship where Group is the parent and customer is the child and select one to many.
