I know Thomas uses Camtasia and hosts it on the server, but just thinking that would consume a lot of bandwidth up should/if/when traffic gets to really high numbers from affiliate promotions etc

I considered using Youtube videos since pretty much every browser can play them, however there is that possibility of people clicking off the site.

I know some of the "Gurus" use JW Player etc. to host their videos, but you have to pay for a commercial license for that, AND its also the bandwidth issue.

Whats everyones thoughts? I know at work our browsers don't have the updated flash software and won't allow us to install the update, which means I can't view camtasia videos at work...and most likely many others can't either.

Maybe YouTube would be a good choice if I strip out the related videos, and other distracting add-ins?

EDIT: Found a free open-source player that doesn't require payment for commercial use at http://flowplayer.org, but the issue of bandwidth still remains.

Is this a big concern, or not really? How much bandwidth would it really use up on a popular site?

I have a reseller hosting account that gives me 250 GB of bandwidth
a month. I compress videos so a 6 minute video is about 12 MB.

I need to get quite a lot of views to make a dent in the bandwidth...
so while the average marketer perceives "self-hosting" as being expensive
and difficult, I feel it's actually more reliable than YouTube, looks more pro,
and gives you a lot more control.

Once you learn how to work with self-hosting you can do some cool stuff
competitors who are using YouTube cannot do. Of course I am watching
my bandwidth... but I try to set things up so only quality prospects are
watching my longer videos anyway.

Even when I start to use up my bandwidth can just remotely host on
an unmonitored host. Since I'm not doing big "launches" with video my
bandwidth demands are stable... not hitting the server all at once.

Even then, I could go to a unmonitored host with a "cloud server" much
cheaper than going to Amazon s3 and just use S3 as a backup.

This may seem overly technical, and it is a bit of an issue to learn this
stuff... but once you do it opens up a lot of possibilities with proprietary
video players too.

At YouTube when you get the embed html click the Customize icon and you can specify and be sure "Include Related Videos" is unchecked.

And there's always Google Video, especially for longer clips.

Or, for a somewhate more complex incusion, use Amazon's S3 service to serve the video file.

Josh Anderson mention http://www.aplus.net/.

I will be probably be going that route once I can get back into more video tutorials.

Thomas

Did a search on google for aplus reviews after seeing the great pricing deals on the site, seems like a LOT of people aren't happy with the customer support service, and there seems to be some BBB complaints as well.

Might want to steer clear of them Thomas!

I get all my hosting through Gatorhosting and never had any trouble with them. The account I have says it's "unlimited", but you know how that goes, there's always a cut-off point somewhere.

I will probably be using YouTube or another off-site system for my videos, for containment as well as the free advertising benefits that come with it. ;)

How about hosting files inside of a SkyDrive tied to a Windows Live account? They give out
25 GB right now, and the maximum upload file size is limited to 50 MB per file.

I don't know if they are imbed and player friendly once upped, but it makes a great emergency
backup for products being developed or marketed.
