I have the Express version, OS is XP.

When I get to the Create Setup step I get the following...

Building Project: My Software Organizer
Output Folder: D:\Program Files\TSB Express\SetupBuilder\Release\Web\
Deployment Type: Compressed Web-Based EXE
Code Signing: Disabled
Compression: Best
###
Cleared output folder D:\Program Files\TSB Express\SetupBuilder\Release\Web\
Error during build: Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000

An executable is not created in the folder where I specificed it to be placed.

When I go to the SetupBuilder folder and run the Windows Installer Package I get the following...

The installer incurred an unexpected error installing this package. The error code
is 2721.

Any suggestions to what I may have done wrong?

Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick,

Do you have a program files directory under the c drive?

Thanks,

Thomas

No. It's under the D drive.

Sorry, incorrect answer. Yes I do, under the C drive.

TSB was loaded into a Program Files folder in the D drive.

Hi Rick,

Why do you have a program files on the d drive? Are you running different operating systems?

Try copying the Installaware (program files) folder on your d drive over to your program files under the c drive.

Thanks,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I copied the program files over to the C drive and got the same error. So I purged those.

I removed the version running on the D drive and reinstalled it on the C drive.

I created a new test project and I'm still receiving the same access violation error. Here is the text from the log.txt file.

Building Project: Test Software
Output Folder: C:\Program Files\TSB Express\SetupBuilder\Release\Web\

Hi Rick,

Is the Installaware folder under the c drive, program files? Is this 32 bit or 64 bit operating system?

Thanks,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

It's a 32bit OS. Running 2002 version of XP Pro with Service Pack 2.

I don't have a folder named Installaware. I reinstalled the TBS Express folder this morning on the C drive under the Program Files folder. I had originally downloaded the TSB Express install exe into a download folder on the C drive and ran it from there. It's version is 1.0.0.16. When I reran teh install thsi morning, it defaulted to the D drive Program Files folder and I change it to the C drive Program Files folder. It installed successfully. When I was building a test project, you can see below that's it's working from the C drive files.

Building Project: Test Software
Output Folder: C:\Program Files\TSB Express\SetupBuilder\Release\Web\

To answer your original question, I do have 2 OS's on this machine. When I bought it several years ago, it came with XP Home and XP Pro. I always use XP Pro. I do have a Program File folder on both the C and D drives. I have programs under each.

OK, just found a folder named InstallAware. Didn't look very far did I. I moved it over to the C drive and I'm in the process of building another project. More to come.

Hi Thomas,

Well things started working fine. The build completed, but several things I noticed.

1) The desktop shortcut was not created. I assumed that when the built software is first run it creates the desktop shortcut. Is that correct?
2) The name I used for the final build .exe was not created. I clicked on TBSClient.exe and it started up my program.

I went back and made some changes to my software object and project and rebuilt it. Then I started getting this error. I copied the last few lines of the log.txt file.

Copied file C:\Program Files\TSB Express\TSBClient.exe
Copied file C:\Program Files\TSB Express\9aeaaef7-4908-425d-8866-8fea5eb40b28\Client.TSB
Copied file C:\Program Files\TSB Express\9aeaaef7-4908-425d-8866-8fea5eb40b28\Icon.ico
Created Windows Installer database
Error during build: Cannot open file "C:\Program Files\TSB Express\interop\ulteriormiastub.exe". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

One thing I noticed when I reinstalled everything, the InstallAware folder ends up on the D drive under Program Files while the TBS Express folder is on the C drive under Program Files. I've copied it over to the C drive under Program Files and deleted the version under the D drive.

Any suggestions on the issues? Is there any other info I can provide?

Hi Thomas,

Since the last error was indicating a file was being used by another process, I decided to reboot my PC to see if that would clear out anything. Here is the error I'm now getting when I try to build the software.

Great, we made progress then.

Is there a devexpress.xtraprinting.v8.2.dll in your program files\tsbexpress folder?

This could be an error on my part.

Thanks,

Thomas

Yes that dll is present in the TBS Express folder.

Then there is something on your computer not allowing the copy of that dll for the build process. Does this happen everytime you try to build?

If it does, than try another software project and test it out.

I uninstalled everything again. Ran install and everything installed fine, no erros. TBS Express was installed on the C drive under Program Files. The InstallAware folder was installed on the D drive under Program File. Can't figure that one out. So I moved it over to the C drive.

Ran the Build again and got this error.

Yesterday I was able to get through several successful builds. But I did notice some issues. I described them in previous posts. I went back in to make some corrections, etc and a rebuild and then starte dgetting all of these errors. I'm sure there is something I'm doing wrong or out of sequence, etc.

The reason it was installed on d drive is because of your operating system residing on d drive. The software looks for it on c drive. I am going to try to make my installation more dynamic to avoid these problems. :)

The build is working to a certain degree. The fact that you were able to build previously is great to hear. There is something interfering that I am not sure of. It seems there is something putting a lock on those files and not allowing the software to copy them.

You stated that you were able to build yesterday but noticed some issues. Where did you post those issues? The only thing I knew was you were not able to build successfully.

Thanks,

Thomas

Back on the first page post #10. I was doing a lot of rework, reinstall, and rebuilds yesterday trying to figure things out, I need to do a better job of documenting what's happening. So ignore that post until I can rebuild successfully and see if I have any other issues.

Are there any other logs I can send you that might help?

Thanks,
Rick

No, the information you are posting is enough. It tells me what is going wrong.

There is something interfering with the copying of those files. I noticed the files are changing so something seems to be locking those files up.
