If you had to choose one, In your opinion which is the better business plan? Create applications to sell or create applications to give away.
I fell, when your just starting out you want to focus all your time and energy on one plan. In my opinion I think creating applications to give away and build a mailing list is the best route at first. Anyone disagree?
What areas should beginners put their time and energy in? Which areas have you been the most successful in? Creating trials? CPA clicks, affiliate links, straight selling? Whats your opinion?

Hi Pat,
I have done all of them. For expensive software, I have found trials to be an effective way to make sales. For inexpensive software I like just to make the sale but also include a video demonstrating the software.
You are still look at this way too broad.
It really matters on the market that you will be entering or working.
Do you want to known as an expert in a particular niche? Then giving away some software will help you build credibility as well as build your lists.
You can use software to sell affiliate products and to build your list at the same time. Use the software as a bonus and then get them to sign up by giving them the software product that they will need to register in order to use.

There is a product on the market which I was able to get a license key for free for quite a while back... I won't say the item name, because it competes with one of Thomas' products (NOT TSB itself tho)...
Anyways, they offer a free license key to ANYONE. The only requirement is that the user has to post a review on their own blog or site and it has to stay for a minimum of 2 months... (you are sent the key once the company sees the entry on your blog or site or wherever you post the review) so you don't have to wait the 2 months - they take your word for it...)
I thought this was an awesome way to obtain links and reviews so I will be adapting this concept for some of my smaller apps...
