I am not sure what you will be using for help documentation software, but you will need something. I have found the Screen Steps software very cool. It helps speed up documentation and allows you to export to pdf and html.
The new version, that is coming out, will allow you to export it to Word.
They are raising their prices when the new version comes out so you better get in now if you are interested.
I did the documention on TSMaker.com using the same software.
No, I am not an affiliate of the product. I am not even sure if they have affiliates.

Wow wicked find T!
I hate documentation already, but I can tell this will speed up things greatly!
Are you using both the Live and Desktop versions, or just Desktop and uploading to your site yourself?

I am using desktop. The documentation on TSMaker is done with Screen Steps. It will convert to pdf as well.
You have html templates that you can modify which will product what you saw on TSMaker. It took me awhile to get it right, but it looks like part of the website now.

Make sure you watch the videos Neal. I did and learned some cool tricks. Now I just go through the whole routing and screen capture as I go. Later I go back and add the text. It really speeds up the process.
It did take me some time to tweak the html templates but that was because Mike won't let me sleep. :D

Any time my Blonde friend. :)
I will supply a editable version so you can give out to your customers.
I will also set up a screen step file that can be imported if you are using screen steps.

Very good job on the help files. I appreciate them. Did you ever think of them as a very very long sales page for your product? Of course, to someone who never worked with this program, I guess they could be quite intimidating. I am sure to learn from them myself. There were some areas I was weak in.

Thanks Alton.
I never though of the help files as sales letters. I am pretty confident this forum helps in sales. I think it makes people feel more comfortable knowing this isn't a product that will disappear without support the next day after purchase.
It seems that happens a lot which is unfortunate for those of us that are building a long term business.

Yes, that happened to me a couple of years ago with a software building product, paid a lot of money then the developer pulled out and took down the support site .......It's a pity as I think it would have been a good
product in the end with all the bugs sorted out,, ah well, at least I found this place with folk in it for the long haul and not a quick buck,
T. the screen steps file will be great, this will help speed up the documentation for us no end for us who have the program.
Thanks again T. for great job. :)

Hi Thomas
Thanks for the documentation - can't wait to get started :D Sorry this is a bit late -I had extreme computer malfunctions all of last week, culminating in the death of my monitor on Monday! :mad:Had to go and buy a new one on Tuesday and am finally back online.
thanks for all your hard work - it's really appreciated.

I just wanted to add some information I stumbled upon this morning. I was unable to use the Word 2007 version of the customer help file because I have Word 97. But, I was able to open the file in Open Office. From there, I did a little editing, added a table of contents ( easy to do) and created a PDF for my customers. Thanks again, Thomas for all the work you did on them.

Hi Alton - I wasn't able to access my own ScreenSteps files for the same reason and Open office didn't work for me either.
I did a search and found a Microsoft patch:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/ha100444731033.aspx
and... Walla! My problem was solved! LOL
Anyway, this might be useful for you another time.

Thanks, Tink. I will hang on to that. Are you using Open Office 3. It worked for me. And, make sure you are opening the Word file Thomas made, not the Screen Steps file. I have Screen Steps, but not the Pro version that makes books of individual Screen Steps files.

Hi Alton -
I'll check on the Open Office version... Not sure which I am running.
I was trying to open a Word file that I had made with Screen Steps...
Now that I have DLed and installed the patch, all seems happy. :D
