View Full Version : Feature Request - Links to Online Videos

Thomas, would it be possible to have direct links to online videos? I tried the website editor, but it won't accept youtube links and links ending in .wmv.

This would be useful for tutorials, such as languages, or allowing people to link to their favourite videos

(sorry if someone has already asked - I seem to be good at repeating questions, but couldn't find that one!)

thanks

Waller

Hi Waller,

Couldn't you just embed the video into an html page and link to that page?

Just a thought. :)

The above wouldn't help with allowing people to link to their favourite videos issue.

Best Regards,

Jim

You could create a Hyperlink in the Static Add-Ons and insert it into your object. Will that work for you or do you want your end users to be able to add them?

I do see what you mean, because if you had a website object and your enduser put in:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC8L1z9AE_o&feature=fvhl (just a random youtube video)

the website object brings up an error that the link is not in the correct format.

Maybe Thomas will have to check this out. He's not doing anything anyway :)

If need be, you could also create a redirect using either .htaccess, php, cgi or asp... If you need further assistance with any of those (for the time being), let me know.

P.S. Don't worry about repeating a question multiple times:

(A) It makes the community look bigger :D
(B) Thomas has nothing better to do than answer the same questions over and over (I mean God, the guy must take like 2 whole 3 minute coffee breaks a year, so I mean, he has plenty of time) ;)

Heheheh, just kidding of course...

That won't work if he wants his end users to be able to add in their own youtube or video website links, which I think is the problem.

Are we giving him that much time off? Geez, we are great to him :)

Thanks for the answers guys, I can sort out something for videos I make myself, but the favourite videos is the problem. Damn, I've had a good idea for software which would be better if it could include that :(

Perhaps Thomas will have an answer when he gets back from his coffee break :D

Are we giving him that much time off? Geez, we are great to him :)I know, I think it happened at the Xmas party (that I wasn't invited to by the way, so I had to crash it)... I think I over-spiked the nog and we somehow gave him an extra bonus or something. It's still all a haze to me, so I am not too sure how it happened either :)

Waller, do you want the user to add links to videos? Or show links, in the applications, to videos?

No coffee break for me. I am a slave to you people. :) My wife thanks you for keeping me busy. It has made my marriage work for her. hehe

Hi Thomas,

Pre-populating the software with links to specific videos isn't a problem - I can embed them in an html page and put that in a website editor.

But it would be cool, if possible, to allow users to add links to their own favourite videos, which could be youtube or for example, video sites which use magnify.net. I've got a software idea for one using magnify - they use these formats:

www.sitename.com/video/name-of-video or

www.sitename.com/video/name-of-video-wmv

Could that be a possibility?

thanks

Gotcha, no problem. I am moving this over to the wishlist section to remind me.

How can I not be good then. hehe

BTW, my wife got me drinking tea. I love the stuff now. All the other Americans think I am strange. I just tell them I am sophisticated now. :D

Whiskey is very good in tea as well - being Irish, I know these things. Pity my surname (Jamison) isn't spelled with an "e" - I could have sent you all a crate.
