Ok, here is my software test. Don't laugh to awful hard-:D
It is an attempt to give my daughter some way to keep up with clients and prospects for her magazine.
She is selling advertising space and needs to be able to keep up with what stage in the process she is at.
All fields are entered manually and no calculations included (will work on that later).
The software is not finished, but just something to give me an idea of how all this works.
Edit: updated link--fixed some software issues

Hey, that looks pretty good Glenn :)
Couple of quick thing I see you could possible add or change.
1. Maybe add a text file object to the word processor to give the doucment a name. You can also add a date field, etc. so you can save more info about the document.
2. The payment section doesn't have the month's in order. If you could arrange them so it's Jan, Feb, March, etc. just to make it easier to use.
I really like the double tab section. I hadn't thought of that. I'd just been pondering how to add all that data and not look congested :)

Hey Glenn,
I downloaded it and will install it later. I am sure it will be pretty damn good though.
Congrats man, you made some friggin software dude. :)

Dang it, must have forgot to check that again. Each time I move something around or add something else--I have to run through all tabs to make sure no items have moved. They were in order.
Thanks for the suggestions and kind review--LOL

Groups and Tabs will be your friend.
I think you can hear my pretty voice in the customization video saying that. :D

Yeah, I kept hearing this voice in my head while building it---:D
Groups and tabs, groups and tabs--heheee
Glenn
Edit: I also see I need to be careful renaming the "display name"--maybe better not to rename that one--heheeee

Updated the link in first post and adding here. Fixed some issues and added more property editors under "Word Processor" object. Fixed "payment fields" in "clients" object.

Color me clueless!
I DLed Glenn's software (thank you, Glenn for making it avaiable)... now what do I do with it?
My system doesn't recognize the .rar extension. I tried changing it to a .zip (that has worked in the past for other problems) but no go.
I would LOVE to take a look (especially to see the double tabs?). I am starting to understand a lot more, just from looking at software examples!

Tink a rar file is like a zip file, but some programs won't unzip it.
Here is a great zip program that does it all, and best of all it's free:

Glenn. Great job. I like the browsers in the word processor. Never thought of that. It gives me many more ideas :D I see a couple of column in the word processor grid that don't show in the word processor. Are they hidden?
One other thing I would do if it was me, is to not show all the editors in the grid of the Business Clients object, but having said that, and testing on my own, that doesn't seem to work. Even if Show in Grid is unchecked, it still shows. I'm going to post in the bug section and see if this is how it's supposed to be. Not showing everything in the grid keeps it uncluttered and clean looking.

Thanks Mike,
I gotta go back to the "grid video" to see how to accomplish that. I would just like to show the "Business Name" . Maybe one or two other fields, not sure yet.
I really don't know what you are referring to about the word processor. The grid I see shows "date, text and file editor".
The grid on the word processor itself---some are faded until you start typing etc.---but don't think that is what you are referring to.
Glad you like the browsers I included--I can see them as being very useful if used correctly. Even like Thomas said---use a browser--and change the web page every now and then.
MMMMMmm, how bout a url rotator type thing---shows different stuff on same page--just flips through them.
Been a while---but I had one set up on a website one time---in an iframe.
I noticed a couple of bugs still---but they may be of my doing. I included "first name" in the "contact details tab". I have tried it twice now---but first name doesn't show up in the grid or printing. Only middle and last name.
Also, when you choose a software object like "person, organization, custom, etc." the photo editor works and saves the picture in the file or each time you call it up.
I added an extra "photo" field, also located in the "contact details" but that photo spot does not save the photo.
May just be something I am doing. I will post this into "bugs and errors" to see if me or not.
Thanks again,
Glenn

Glenn, looks good you are going to have a nice database.
I hit an error, which I put in the error section.
I had a thought, you might want to ask your daughter if she would like any reports? and charts...
Monthly sales maybe. She doesn't know the power of TSB, so maybe add the reports and let her play with it, she might have more ideas then,
Just a thought, maybe she keeps all her accounting in Quick books.
Other than the already mentioned grid crowding, it's looks good.

Taylor,
Plan on adding reports and charts. I just need to learn a little more about them first.
Thanks for the review. I will also check out the error section.

Taylor,
I checked the error section and I have not run across any errors with this build. Were you using the updated download for the 2nd version? It is http://www.tylerhrm.com/thrmag2.rar

Yes it was the second version, Thomas is looking at it.
I'm sure it is some combo of my steps, not you. The database is closing now, basically had to crash it to close it.
Thanks for sharing, you are brave, and it's helping all of us.

Hey Glenn,
Did you notice funky stuff on your appointments page? Resource id has junk in it.
this may be because I have trashed the database, in which case I can delete and reinstall.
Also you have end date above start date, I think people think start - then end.
And type is a number, your daughter knows all the codes right? I expected text, or a spin box.
Is appointment id needed on the form? maybe that's a Thomas question, since it isn't editable.
I hope this doesn't sound like criticism, I think you have done a great job, and I know it's a work in progress.

Hey Taylor,
Yes, noticed that. But all I did there was add the object and no editing at all. Was just wanting to get it in there to see what I could do with it.
I really didn't expect to put the software out there for everyone. But not knowing what can be done--just wanted to see if others are doing similar software or more complicated.
I don't mind being a guinea pig---:p
I don't even mind doing a layout for others to brand and play with---(don't think my software ready for prime time just yet--).
I added a rights file just to explain and to practice--heheheee-----I don't mind folks using it here.
I have just started to understand the things I did put in. I am a long way from understanding what can be done. I would like to play with calculations etc.----Example would be my "billing and invoice" tab.
The original software I was hoping to do with calculations can't be done yet. Someone already asked that question on here somewhere.
Example: a+b=c
then : d+e=f
with final answer of c+f=g
That is the type forms I fill out at work and was hoping to make it easier or just put on computer. All of it is done with paperwork now.
Also-the main feature I would like to see is easier and more printing capabilities. All of the things I can think of would require that.----But, I am just trying to work around that and understand what can be done with the software and why someone would use it.
I have tried exporting the info to .html, excel, etc. and none seem to show all the info---or cut it off somewhere.
I like .html the best for viewing at the moment.
Bottom line is that I don't yet quiet understand the possibilities of the software. I am pretty stoked about it right now---I am sure I will be ecstatic once I realize what I can do with it.

Glenn, what is getting cut off in the export? It will always depend on the page size as well.

Thomas
Well, I think you are correct about the page size. The .html file is of course a window and you have to scroll to move the page over to see all the info. So, that is the reason for cut-off on printing. Was thinking maybe it would do a page 2 or something.
A text file is all jumbled.
Did a print in "landscape" instead of "portrait" and it got more of the info.
Each software will have to figure out settings to print to in order to get all the info (according to how many editors there are).
Actually, the exel file got all the information and printed out pretty well. I would now have to go with the excel file for use.
I may play with it some more tomorrow.
