View Full Version : Doh!

Ok... I will admit... I just had one of those Duh! moments... leading to the Doh! exclamation in the subject.

I have been focusing on the software I want/need to get created for one of the classes I'll be teaching in Jan and on another application for an online course I am writing... these are both business related and are directly and indirectly tied to my Coaching site

But I also just realized -- blonde me! -- that I have two consumer/hobbyist niches that I can create software for... DUH!!!!!

As my mother would say, *Bless my pointed head!*

I think that the issue here is that the implications and possibilities here are so huge, it is difficult to actually grasp them. Intellectually I understand this... now I need to start applying the opportunities that are presenting themselves!

Congrats Tink.

It is a different way of thinking. I have always been the type of person that likes to systematize things. To break them down into easier chunks and make it more repetitive so there is a particular outcome you can come to expect.

Software is like that. You can take things that people do manually and setup a easier way for them to do it.

I keep getting people asking me what kind of software can this create. It is a tough question because it really can create so many different types. People are seeing it with too narrow of a focus. They should be asking what type of problems can this solve.

That is really the key to making you money. Solving problems which I love to do anyway.

Wait until I add more to the Pro version. I may end up blowing your head up from all the additional ideas. :D

I forgot to mention something.

You can take other pieces of software and make them better. You don't need to make it better functionality wise, just easier to use. People will buy easier things.

The design of TSB is also nice on the eyes which should help in the selling. I have had a lot of people say how pretty the software looks. lol

Every time I see someone post in a forum "oh, I just keep all that in a simple excel file" Bang- I bookmark the thread. I know it would be better in a database.

If you want to know what your hobby people want, go to their biggest forum and search for "spreadsheet". Make a database and stick it in your sig file. :D Heck, give it to them for free, reference the thread that needed it, load it with affiliate links. (I'm still spinning with the browser feature, who needs banners, make a resources object, with browsers to eBay (ePN) and Amazon for a start.)

They Will Love You.

Cool! Thanks! Of course, I already know I'll have trouble falling to sleep tonight. Too many ideas!:p

Thanks, just trying to help. We need to know what data people are collecting.

Like Bird Watchers keep "life lists" all the birds they have ever seen, and where, and what time, and what the weather was like...
and state lists...
and country lists...
and year lists...
etc.
they are fanatical !
(I'm married to one :) )

Niches for us are endless.

Thomas,

I agree wholeheartedly that the software is very attractive... and from someone like me with TWO design degrees... that is high praise indeed!

Thanks Tink. My first bachelor degree was in graphic design. I wanted money so I got another in computers. :D

I'm still trying to find time to play with TSB as much as I want to so this may be a dumb question...

Can TSB import stuff from an Excel spreadsheet or CSV? For example, like excel where you get external data and then it maps the fields out from the source file into where they belong in excel?

I ask because it seems it would be an easy sell for someone who is already keeping their data in a spreadsheet or flat file to be able to update/manipulate their data in something as simple to use as TSB.

Good question, I'd be curious to know too!
