OK. This is NOT an attempt for me to sell software or services, as I get nothing from the companies I'm about to recommend!

I created and manage a website for another company. Using these tools I increased site traffic from zero visitors to 400 unique visitors per day within three months. After a year, we now average over 1100 visitors per day and often get as high as 1600+ per day. Not bad, eh?

I did it with the following procedure which you can easily copy:

1. I created an "article specification" for a handful (about 6) articles on keyword phrases I thought were appropriate for the site.

2. I setup an account at need-an-article.com. It's cheap. I think it's $9.95 a month and gives you access to a slew of great writers. I placed an order to have these 6 articles written. Cost was a bit over $9 per article and they were completed within about 4 days!

3. I submitted those articles to a few key article directories. In particular, ezinearticles.com. You have to get it posted there. In fact all the articles I have there get me an average click through rate of at least 10%.

4. I signed up with a service at HitTail.com. Guys, this site is a hidden goldmine if you're not aware of it or how to use it properly. They used to offer a free account, now it's $99/year and worth every penny!

5. The articles I posted on the directories got the traffic flow going. But, what it really did for me is feed key information to the HitTail service.

6. Using its proprietary algorithms, the service then makes very educated suggestions on keyword phrases that will bring you greater traffic and search engine positioning if you create more content for your site using that keyword phrase. In fact, they even have an Excel download feature that gives you a 1-10 indicator that tells you how much search engine coverage you're already getting using that keyword.

7. From that list, I selected keywords with an indicator of 6 or less. These, I found offer me the greatest opportunity for market penetration.

8. I then create another article spec for as many of these as primary keywords (depending on my time and budget) and marry it to another one of the keywords on the list with appropriately similar content as a secondary keyword for the article.

9. I then submitted this to the good folks at need-an-article.com and had them write an article on this keyword.

10. I posted the article on my site (one article per week for the first few months, now I'm up to one article per day)

11. Rinse and repeat.

12. Follow this approach and you'll be amazed at the number of first page links you get on the search engines, even for highly competitive terms. In fact, I have multiple first page ranking entries on several search engines - including Google for terms that have listings in the millions! Right now, I have top rankings for over 700 top terms!

Hope this helps you guys.

Thanks for the info Neil, It's something I'll try in the not to distant future, as a side line, with all the extra
hits did it increase sales for the company?
Cheers Neal. T

Hi, Neal:

The site was designed to generate targeted traffic for products of a specific genre that could then be redirected to our many members' sites for them to engage in sales activities. So, sales increased for those that were savvy enough to take advantage of the increased traffic.

Additional sites of a similar nature but targeted at different product niches were then placed on the drawing board. As soon as some additional elements are added to the current site (e.g., a high value custom ebook I co-wrote with one of my writers) that will be used to better capture and create a large targeted mailing list from the site's existing traffic, the next planned site will be developed and deployed. But, this strategy can be used effectively for virtually any market, including software sales.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
