This software is a potential gold mine for those who will learn to use it and actually turn out and market some products. I encourage everyone here that hasn't already, to see a product to completion and sell it. It doesn't really matter what niche it is in or how fancy you make it. Once you start selling the first product, you will find it much easier to go on to the next. This is a better plan than to start a dozen softwares and never really finish or try to sell any of them.
People are looking for anything that will make their lives and their businesses simpler and easier. We breed and sell Yorkshire terriers (Yorkies) as a business. One day, while buying dogfood at a local groomers shop, I was talking to the owner about how to manage a dog grooming business. She showed me a chart she had made on paper to try to track and record each dog or cat (and their owner), and what services had been done. She was also trying (on paper) to keep up with appointments. After our discussion, she gave me a copy of the chart and I used this along with other sources of information to design a software for dog and cat groomers and kennel owners. I made it with TSB. I sell it for 27 to 30 dollars and have sold 26 copies so far. Of course, this groomer got a free copy! Not rich yet, but its a start. I have a few others that sell occasionally too.
One of the best things about our software is the ease of installation for our customers. Believe me, that really makes a difference in supporting your customers. I like to brag about this in my sales pages. It used to take an expert in computers to install programs on computers.
And, there seems to be no end to the number of niches or businesses that need data-based software. People just don't keep all their information in a ledger anymore. We are in the right place and at the right time.

I agree Alton. I haven't created a bunch of software yet. I've been concentrating on my ebiztracker.com site. From my one major ebiztracker software, I have created at least 2 smaller modules and will probably create at least 2 more. I can use the smaller module as a giveaway or sell at a lesser price than the complete package and promote the complete package from within those.
I've been waiting for this version of TSB to come out so people can update their software when I make changes. Plus holding off has given me a chance to have my website almost done. Just need to add some bonuses and maybe an upsell and then I'm looking for affiliates.
Thanks to Thomas we have a good chance of maybe making some good money. :D

Great post Alton. I know I am excited until you guys found all the bugs. lol
Honestly, I am extremely excited because I can now create software within a day or two and sell it for a ton of money. My support will be lowered as well. I will be making most of my money from creating software, using TSB, rather than selling TSB.

You can handle a few bugs. Just get a can of bug killer. Anyhow, if you make this too easy, everyone will make too much software. LOL. I think you are doing the right thing by concentrating on products rather than just selling the program. This is coming along just fine and with a little patience on all our part, it will become an even better software.
That is a great point about keeping support issues down. Support problems can really make for a long day. We can help by providing clear instructions about how to use the applications. Of course, no amount of documentation will help when you get someone who won't even try. So far, with the products I made here and sold, I haven't had any support problems.
Excited? Me too. I keep waking up each morning with software ideas. Sometimes, nightmares!

You can use the support to build a community like we have here. :)
I don't have any problems with ideas either. Just the time to implement them which is why I started building TSB.

Alton,
Great post! Very inspiring. Now that I've got a bit of the learning curve for TSB under control, I'm not having trouble with ideas. However, I don't know beans about truly marketing and selling beyond the stock list of IM strategies.

Prior to TSB, I used this same tactic of selling software at a low price and upselling to full featured software. Giving away copies is a good idea, it is a tool that many software companies use. Free personal, educational or standard edition, then a professional edition. The upcoming multi user feature will allow for your third tier of an enterprise version where you can charge per seat (per user) and make some good money.
I wrote a proposal software years back, and although I played with different price points, I started selling it for $79, and an enterprise version for $159 PLUS $50 per seat with the initial user being included. One sale to a Hertz Rent-A-Car manager for his area stores made me appreciate building a multi user model. ;)
I plan on resurrecting the software while upgrading to higher end features with TSB as soon as I get my hands on the upgrade.
Nearly every software company uses a 3 tier system of data management software.

Absolutely Dominic. It is quite easy to set up different feature levels of software. Not only can you upsell them to the higher version but also make money every year by offering updates. The update logic is in place with this release.
I remember reading a persuasion book talking about offering three different price points like we discussed. Normally the person will pick the second price point.
So you have a Express, Professional and then Enterprise the majority would pick the Professional which makes you more money.

I really think the multi user capabilities will be a gold mine.
Think about all the small businesses that could use software. It is unlimited! Only a few sold can set you up with a 6 figure business when you add in support costs.
Most of the bigger companies will charge for support. It isn't a part of the initial software purchase.
Like I said before, I will be making far more money selling software built with TSB Professional than selling TSB Professional itself. :)

One company here locally charges about 2k a year for support and it is required in the licensing...
The kicker is they use an answering service to answer easy questions based on a flow chart style FAQ, and then forward only the difficult problems to one of 3 techs. If I remember correctly they pay about $60 a month for the answering service.

Actually Thomas in the Office Equipment Service Industry (been in it 25 years) There is only 2 players for
service/repair/data management and that is Ice and Miracle Service.
We use miracle service (miracleservice dot com) and its quite pricy. For the 3 user licience its $1700 just for 12 months support and all we usually get are 3 upgrades a year. I was gonna try and enter this one myself :( but it has barcode scanner option (pls pls pls ) and we use that to scan in copier parts and consumables.... BUT apart from that ESTHETICALLY it looks CRAP 8-) I would love to see TSB walk all over it.
I could make an aussie version and eat up alot of other markets
For Example: The only SOFTWARE database for VIDEO hire is rocketrental (dot com) here in australia (my local place uses the old videominder (DOS) version.... but if you go look at the screen shots on its site  can you SEE TSB in its place (nods head).... only thing is its got barcode scanner feature (shut up robbie we get it already :D )
TSB is developing into a very exciting product Thomas...... kudos
ps: hows the 'other' life issue going? getting there?

Barcodes are part of the reports. I will be adding more in terms of barcode functionality (scanning). I think this is a must.
Thomas
P.S. Life is great mate. I moved on and loving it. I am enjoying more time to myself without the guilt. hehe Thanks for asking. :)

Here is the reaction of a customer who installed the trial version of one of my products.
"This is GREAT! How do I buy this? Is it on Ebay?"
And, it came at the end of a long day yesterday. Of course, I sent him a link. I am wondering, of course, why he didn't see the one I thought was there. I think he was just really excited. Anyhow, another sale. :D
Thanks for all the work, Thomas, and the hope it provides during these tough times.

Any update on the barcode feature yet Thomas?
I borrowed a usb scanner and if you put cursor on field and scan in SN it works
but i installed a trial software (http://www.datavillage.com/upload/datsupp.exe) to try it and what i was wondering is
WHEN you eventually do it will i be able to fill in a table of info about
say, a WD hardrive, input the stock, price, barcode and when i SCAN this
barcode, the data on that page will show up with that information?
Hope that make sense...
Hope your well :P

Looks like you are ready for that bar code, eh Robbie. :D
I haven't planned it out yet. It will take some funds and some time to try to incorporate it. I have no dates as to when I will be able to do this. I am finishing up on the sales funnel and marketing for TSmaker.
Once that kicks off I will start looking into more enhancements. I plan on reinvesting some of the cash from TSmaker into more enhancements for TSB and TSmaker.
