Hi Thomas,
Is there anyway you can remove the Reset Layout button? Yes, I clicked it again and I reset my layout AGAIN.
I've been very careful since the first time I did this until now. As I was making some layout changes and getting ready to click the Customize Layout button, my dog started to crap on my living room carpet.
I yelled at her and clicked at the same time and clicked the Reset Layout button by mistake. ARGH!
Is it help an idiot day?

Come on fellow TSB'ers, hasn't anyone else clicked the Reset Layout button by mistake! Anyone else feel the pain? :)
Ok, Thomas if you do consider to make a change, here are some suggestions!
1) Remove the Reset Layout button.
OR
2) When clicked, ask a question if you really want to do this. If you click yes by mistake, it really does mean you are a moron and you suffer the consequences.
OR
3) Put the button somewhere else.
OR
4) Put some blank space between the Customize Layout button and the Reset Layout button. Then for us mouse pointer challenged people if we miss the Customize button and click in the blank space area, we won't destroy our existing layout.
Thanks,
Rick

Sorry to say, the button stays. You just need to stop clicking it. ;)

Hi Thomas,
I know there is a need for the button.
Hey, I got my crystal ball out and it was telling me that you are going to make lots of TSMaker sales in the future! Given this software could be sold to commercial companies, having these simple bullet-proof safeguards in place will make the customer satisfaction increase. ;)
I figured if you were to change how the Reset Button is handled today, it could save you a lot of customer support grief in the future when your TSMaker sales go through the roof!
Just looking out for you T.:) and of course us mouse pointer challenged could benefit too!
Thanks
Rick

I appreciate you worried about me, Rick. hehe
I think I will be making some TSMaker sales as well. :) I am working on a new site as we speak that will feed into TSMaker.

Yesterday, I accidentally hit the dreaded Reset Layout button. On a software that has about 150 fields. Who knows why our fingers defy our intentions, but it happens. I took a deep breath and tried to remain calm.
However, I left everything scrambled and went back to the Model. That is, I did not save changes. I did not close the software. I went back to the Model and ran the software again. Everything was still there and in the previous state.
Then, I opened the Task Manager on my computer. Just press Ctrl and Alt and Delete at the same time to open the Task Manager. From there, I closed the windows that pertained to the scrambled layouts. You should be able to close the windows without Task Manager, but I had one window that had stuck.
This left me with only the windows opened that had the software with my old layouts. I closed the windows and chose not to save.
I hope this makes some sense. It just got me back to the point I was at before my errant finger sabotaged my work. And, only took a few moments to do.
And then, I exhaled. :D

Seems Like you found another very useful tip and workaround Alton, with all these tips you should write a book ;) thanks for posting this tip,

Yea, Alton that sounds a lot easier than re-customizing everything, which I did once, well maybe twice, but hopefully not a third time :)

Thanks Alton for the info. I will keep it handy and most likely will give it a shot. I've clicked the reset layout button too many times by mistake on this latest software program that I've been working on.
Although there is a silver lining here, each new layout is better than the last! But I can't keep redoing the layout, I need to focus on the marketing side.
Maybe I just need to take a swig of an adult beverage to calm my mouse clicking efforts!

Hi all,
Like everyone else I've accidentally hit the reset layout button.
My solution is that once I get the layout the way I want, or things working the correct way (calcs, relationships etc) is to copy the database file into a new folder with a new version name. I just give the folder a version name, I don't change the name of the database file.
I then change the location of the file in the software programs window to point to the new folder and file and viola, I've got a new file to keep on working with and if things go wrong, then I just overwrite the version I screwed up with the previous version. At worst I'll loose a couple of changes.
The one thing I often forget to change is the version number in the model, but generally no big deal.
I end up with a lot of versions but it sure saves a lot of grief, hair pulling (whats left of it) screaming etc:D
Cheers;)

Good idea, Jim. And, of course, there is another way to get the layout back...
