View Full Version : Data storage is in Program Files folder - Causes Admin prompt

I've noticed that every time I start TSB Pro that I get prompted to run it with Administrator access rights. (I'm running Vista, which just loves to complicate life with this kind of thing.)

I'm pretty sure that's because you're storing the data along with the program in the Program Files folder. Windows is picky about that, and would be happier if the data was stored in Documents or on the c drive in its own folder. Or maybe in the ProgramData folder, though I'm not up on that one. (Doesn't like you writing to root, either, except to create a folder.)

For backup purposes, it would be better not to have it in Program Files, too.

I'm extremely new to TSB so I don't know if that's the storage scheme for generated programs, too. But it oughtn't to be. May I suggest moving that on the next update?

Maybe I'm all wet, Thomas, so let me know if I should be hanging my head in shame.

Hi Rich,

I am doing a little more things behind the scenes that require admin rights. It is unfortunate that vista likes to plague us like it does.

Thanks,

Thomas

Now that I've broken through the first application barrier and have things working, I want to say... THANKS! This is pretty cool... and I'm looking forward to making this a fast and useful tool.

I do find that starting my application (not just TSBPro) brings up a Vista alert, even if I don't install it in the Program Files folder.

Thomas, I run a lot of database software that doesn't require administration rights. For almost three years now nearly every PC sold is delivered with Vista. What are you doing in my computer that requires admin rights? Can't you do a workaround that doesn't require admin rights to run the apps?
