One person using the jobtracker software I made ages ago is getting this error, which I don't get when I test the exe on my computer. Here is his message:

" I double click on each job in the Job Applications screen to add notes to the position. Every once and a while this will result in the following error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Once I receive this error I have to close the program and start it again as it will pop up every few seconds."

I made a new app with the latest version of the software. He was able to install it without losing his information but the same error is apparently still occurring. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Waller

I would need to know exactly what they are doing to get the error. The error happens once in a great while and it is normally how I am entering in information. It can happen depending on the relationships.

He was getting it when he double clicked on the grid to open a record to add more information. The original software was made with an older version of TSB and didn't have any relationships. There is a one to many relationship in the new version, with job applications (the one causing the problem) being the one, related to many follow up docs. Don't know if that helps  - I'll ask him for some more information.

thanks

Have you been able to reproduce the error consistently?

I haven't been able to reproduce it at all. He has replied and is using more of the memo fields this time. So I guess I should keep adding information to see if it crops up? He is using quite a few records - about 60 (imagine applying for 60 jobs ) Anyway, I'll get back to it and see what happens.

Hi Waller,

It is a generic error that I get once in awhile. Maybe we should try to get his software file to reproduce it. What do you think?

That is why I love ya, Waller. hehe

It will be under his c:windows\users\HISUSERNAME\appdata\local\TSBuilde r

He may need to make sure his Hidden folders are visible if he can't find his appdata folder. He can do that in his folder and search options and have him click the view tab. There will be a radio button that he will need to click that says "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

Clear as mud? :D

I suspect, from his emails, that he knows more about this than I do :o So I'll have to bluff my way.

I'll see what I can do. But will no doubt have to come back to you for an interpretation. Shame my linguistic ability doesn't extend to computer programme speak. :p

I need to get an early night. so you'll be relieved to hear I'm going to bed soon. Will email Joe first.

Glad ya still love me.

I've just discovered I can make a mean chocolate cake ;) I'l make you a whole one when you come to London.

Thomas - he wants to know if this will have all his information in it, worried about confidentiality. I'm guessing it will??

Yes it will. He can live with the error if he worries about all the information. :)

Yeah, we've got more important things to do than read his job applications!:D

My plan is to sell software to all these people who need jobs,to help them get jobs so that I never need to get another job, ever. But if I don't speed up, I'll be dead before it 's finished!

Cake - ummmmmmmmm It's to die for . .. . positively orgasmic :p I had a test run on Monday and then I baked a big one today while Michael was at work, for his birthday tomorrow. don't think it will last that long. Got the recipe online - I can't eat any grains and so I don't ever bake, but this uses ground almonds and seriously good chocolate .. . :p
